The young and innovative company empowers local farming communities through sustainable employment, agriculture, and educational initiatives. Combined with the small-batch craftsmanship philosophy and pristine, tropical ingredients, the mouth-watering recipes create the ultimate snacking experience.
How it All Started
In 2012, their founder Aaron Fishman traveled to rural East Bali as a healthcare volunteer. He was astonished by the breathtaking beauty of the region. The volcanoes, dense jungle, and rugged hillsides are home to a rich, complex culture and a vibrant community. Yet, Aaron discovered that behind the beauty, East Bali was also an impoverished region of cashew farmers. Farmers sold raw cashews to traders who shipped them overseas for processing.
The entrepreneur in him saw an opportunity for a powerful social venture that would bring livelihood and educational opportunities to the region. At the core of his idea was a business that created jobs and improved the quality of life for the community. He envisioned a globally responsible company that made honest food through genuine, transparent, and sustainable business practices. From the humble village of Desa Ban, East Bali Cashews was born.
Made with Love and a Focus on Social Sustainability
At East Bali Cashews they believe “you are what you eat”. That is why they source their fresh ingredients from the local trees and gardens of Karangasem, whenever possible. Organic ginger, chili peppers, coconuts, rosella, and plenty more ingredients are deliciously combined with the highest-quality cashews in the world. Their kitchen cooks up snacks that are healthy, gourmet, and worry-free. Every sale makes it possible to provide over 400 jobs in East Bali.
Most of those jobs are filled by previously unemployed local women who now have a personal source of income and access to education and professional development. As the business has achieved commercial success, it has expanded its social impact and is firmly committed to creating opportunities in East Bali. The social mission of East Bali Cashews ensures that their community can learn, innovate, and thrive.
They have cultivated professional potential implemented farming improvement projects and built the area’s first preschool “AnaKardia Kids” in 2012 at the factory. It was named after two of their most precious resources – cashews and future generations. Combining education and nutrition, their preschool was the first in the region and serves employees’ children, as well as children from neighboring areas–giving them a head start in life.
Delicious cashews do in fact just grow on trees, but they require some work to get to the final product. Their innovative, carbon-neutral technology and practices allow them to bring you the best-tasting cashews with minimal waste.

They also have plans to completely replenish Bali’s 77,000 hectares of cashew trees within the next decade to ensure a healthy foundation for the cashew growing communities. They will continue to conduct research on the impact of their social enterprise and study innovative methods of cashew breeding.
