Meet Martina Sergi

An Interview with Martina Sergi, a life enthusiast, yoga teacher and founder of #yogawithmarti.

Martina is a life enthusiast, food lover, traveler, and yoga teacher from Milan, Italy. She teaches locally but also holds masterclasses and workshops all around the world on a regular basis. In 2016, she started #yogawithmarti  to make yoga accessible to everyone and has continued working on it every single day. This is her journey with yoga… so far.

When did you begin practicing yoga?

I started yoga when I was 24 years old, while I was working on my master’s thesis in Architecture.

What sparked your interest in yoga? What made you begin?

I was working out a lot and I was looking for something to keep my body flexible. I didn’t know anything about it—I just needed to stretch. I started following yogis on Instagram, and it seemed like a perfect match for me, so I practiced at home using apps, eBooks and YouTube videos. After a few months I fell in love with it. I started increasing the time I spent practicing and decreasing the working out part until the latter disappeared completely. It could seem that I found yoga randomly, but I believe yoga found me when I needed it the most, without me even being aware of it.

Do you only practice at home, or do you still go to studios?

I prefer my home practice at the moment, but I do enjoy taking some studio classes now and then.

What is your favorite pose?

My favorite yoga pose is handstand. I love it for different reasons, but the most important one for me is that it’s a reminder to never lose the child inside of me, not to take everything too seriously and allow myself to have fun and be playful.

Are you currently working on any big projects that you can tell us about?

I am realizing now a program for beginners on my website, that will help who wants to start yoga but cannot go to a studio class. It’s a four weeks program that is designed to give all the tools that a person needs to have a safe and mindful practice at home.

I am also working on another project that will be out at the end of April/beginning of May, but that one is still a secret.

If people want to practice with you, where can they find you?

I teach weekly classes in Milan, but I also teach masterclasses and workshops around the world.

They can also practice with me online, on my website www.martinasergi.com or on my YouTube channel, Martina Sergi.

What motivates you to post daily on Instagram?

I love to share my love for life with other people, to inspired and being inspired. I love this app because it allows me to connect with like-minded people and to create a beautiful community. I am always honored when I see all the people practicing with my online classes and being happy to be part of my #yogawithmarti family. They are what inspires me to always post on my page.
